As we have reported previously, an altercation on July 24, 2018 occurred outside the Karuah Land Council offices after Len Roberts, CEO of the Karuah Land Council,  had been asked by a group of members to resign at a Council meeting, but he subsequently turned up at the Land Council offices and attempted to remove keys and files.

When community locals alerted police, Mr Roberts refused to get out of his car, ignoring police instructions. So local members of the community, including Mr Schmierer, stood in front of Robert’s vehicle, preventing him driving away.

Mr Roberts’ vehicle then struck Mr Schmierer, who was subsequently treated at Raymond Terrace Hospital.

Several days after being charged with assault, Cr Roberts was found at the locked Land Council offices removing items and paperwork. On this occasion, it is alleged he made a speedy getaway with files and records.

Schmierer first raised questions about Cr Roberts’ management of the Karuah Land Council and alleged possible corrupt actions in the running of the Land Council.

Mr Schmierer was subsequently fired by Mr. Roberts.
